DJ Z-trip is one of my biggest influences and I can still remember the 1st time I saw him.
It was at Street Scene in San Diego in 2002. I was extremely into electronic music at the time and was there to see Donald Glaude and Christopher Lawrence. I was cruising around to some different stages and heard Tool - Sober, as I walked toward the stage I heard a DJ scratching, and then to my amazement he dropped the acapella to Outkast - Bombs over Baghdad. I hadn't been exposed to anything like this, and I ended up listening to his entire set, another highlite was his Kansas - Dust in the Wind remix. It really tought me that DJing is organic and you can get REALLY creative and experimentation is part of the fun and joy of DJing.
Z-trip has gone on to many many huge things, including playing for the troops in the middle east, numerous mixtapes, an artist album, a residency at Rain nightclub in Las Vegas, and more recently winning the DJ Times #1 DJ in America title.
I had the opportunity of seeing him play a very intimate show while i was in NYC last year for a DJ Hero launch party.
